Dr. Pochan's lab studies the paradigms underlying molecular design and self-assembly to create biomaterials. Molecules studied include polymers, peptides, and polypeptides. In addition to molecule design, the assemlby process itself is also manipulated to drive the molecules into desired nanostructures and materials. Organic-inorganic hybrid materials are also studied. The Pochan lab uses a broad array of synthesis and characterization methods (e.g. electron microscopy, neutron and x-ray scattering) for the construction and characterization of advanced biomaterials.
